Semarang, July 31, 2025 – This year marks a historic milestone for AEON Indonesia, celebrating 10 years of serving the Indonesian community. Over the past decade, AEON Indonesia has demonstrated significant growth through the expansion of its stores across the Greater Jakarta area, with a total of 16 stores now operating throughout the country, comprising 3 General Merchandise Stores (GMS), 8 supermarkets, and 5 Health & Beauty stores.
As part of this year’s anniversary celebration, AEON Indonesia took concrete steps toward environmental conservation by planting 5,000 mangrove seedlings at Mangunharjo Beach, Semarang. This initiative symbolizes AEON Indonesia’s growth journey that is always in harmony with nature. The environmental effort also coincides with the upcoming opening of AEON Indonesia’s 12th supermarket at DP Mall Semarang this August.
To carry out this CSR initiative, AEON Indonesia collaborated with Seasoldier, an independent non-profit organization that is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Founded in 2015, Seasoldier focuses on environmental issues, including mangrove conservation. Osamu Okushima, General Manager of AEON Indonesia, stated, “We are truly honored to collaborate with Seasoldier, who are also celebrating their 10th anniversary, in protecting and preserving our natural resources. This marks a decade of growth, contribution, and commitment—not only to our customers and communities, but also to the environment that sustains us all.”
The planting was carried out by representatives from AEON and Seasoldier teams. A total of 500 seedlings were planted on the day, while the remaining 4,500 seedlings will be planted by Seasoldier in the coming days.
“Wherever AEON is, trees will grow with us,” said Osamu Okushima, General Manager of AEON Indonesia. “We believe that every business expansion should bring positive impact to the environment and local communities.”
Mangroves play a vital role in coastal ecosystems. Their strong root systems act as natural barriers against storm surges, prevent flooding, filter harmful sediments that can damage coral reefs and seagrass beds, help protect coastlines from erosion, and create natural habitats for various marine and coastal species.
The event also included a beach cleanup activity, which collected a total of 108.48 kg of waste. This effort serves as part of AEON Indonesia’s initiative to educate and involve the community in preserving the coastal environment of Semarang.
Through this program, AEON Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to growing alongside communities and nature as part of its long-term sustainability strategy.
