Tangerang, February 26, 2026 – At the end of December 2025, natural disasters struck several areas on the island of Sumatra, particularly Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, causing significant damage to public infrastructure and the economic assets of local residents. The destruction disrupted—and in some cases paralyzed—social and economic activities, requiring immediate assistance as a temporary recovery effort for affected communities.
As a form of concern and solidarity for those impacted by the disaster in Sumatra, AEON Group and the AEON 1% Club Foundation are committed to supporting recovery efforts focused on education and healthcare through the distribution of aid to BAZNAS RI, Indonesia’s official national zakat institution. The symbolic handover of the donation was conducted by the President Director of AEON Indonesia, Takahiro Osugi, to Rizaludin Kurniawan, Head of Fundraising at BAZNAS RI. The ceremony was also attended by the President Director of AEON Mall Indonesia, Tetsuya Kimura, and the President Director of AEON Delight Indonesia, Masatoshi Sashie.
“From late December through January 2026, AEON collected donations from employees and customers of AEON Group Indonesia (AEON Indonesia, AEON Mall Indonesia, AEON Credit Service Indonesia, AEON Fantasy Indonesia, and AEON Delight Indonesia). In addition, donations were also contributed by employees and customers of AEON Group Japan, as well as by the AEON 1% Club Foundation” explained Osugi.
Donations from AEON Group Indonesia amounted to IDR 307,300,000, AEON Japan contributed JPY 27,727,548, and the AEON 1% Club Foundation donated USD 50,000, bringing the total assistance delivered to BAZNAS RI to approximately IDR 4.1 billion.
“AEON Group and the AEON 1% Club Foundation are committed not only to providing emergency relief but also to supporting long-term recovery—particularly in education and healthcare, two essential pillars for the future of the next generation,” Osugi added.
During the handover event, BAZNAS RI also presented its planned programs. The collected funds will be allocated to the recovery of healthcare and educational services, including the renovation of two schools and three madrasahs, provision of school supplies for 600 students, healthcare services, and logistics packages for 500 families.
Meanwhile, Rizaludin stated that since the second day following the disaster in Sumatra, BAZNAS RI has been actively distributing zakat and charitable funds through various humanitarian programs designed in a measurable and sustainable manner to assist affected communities. “BAZNAS has entered the recovery phase to accelerate the restoration of social, economic, and educational activities so that affected communities can regain their independence. Our collaboration with AEON is tangible proof of the extraordinary spirit of mutual cooperation and social concern. Through joint initiatives such as this assistance for our brothers and sisters in Sumatra, we can create meaningful impact,” he explained.
Osugi further noted that AEON has been collaborating with BAZNAS since 2018, recognizing BAZNAS RI as a trusted national institution with extensive experience in distributing aid to those in need. “We believe that through collaboration with BAZNAS, these charitable contributions will be well-targeted and deliver real benefits,” he said.
Rizaludin also expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the trust placed by AEON’s management, employees, and customers who have channeled their donations through BAZNAS RI as a demonstration of solidarity with affected communities. “We hope AEON and BAZNAS will continue to strengthen this close synergy in efforts to improve community welfare and assist those in need,” he conveyed.
“We hope that this small step will help accelerate post-disaster recovery, especially in the education sector, and provide renewed spirit for residents as they rebuild their lives,” Osugi concluded.
